'Scene Unseen' takes a thematic look at the highlights of the Croydon art collection, from early 18th century landscapes to modern abstract art. The exhibition showcases works by well-known artists, such as Bridget Riley, Malcolm McLaren, Max Ernst and Patrick Caulfield, as well as popular local artists, including James Cooper and Evacustes Phipson. This is the first major exhibition of the Croydon Art Collection since 1988.

The range of artworks on display presents the visitor with a visual history of the area, from its scenic countryside roots to the centre of transport and industry it has become today and presents some famous names in abstract art.

Visitors are encouraged to produce their own Croydon landscape or try their hand at copying one of the masterpieces from the collection!

Accompanying the exhibition until the end of January was a creative look at the arts scene in Croydon today with a film produced by students at Croydon College. An exhibition of photographs from Croydon's very own Photoblitzers allowed visitors a chance to see a different view of Croydon.

Between October and November 2009, a guest artist worked with four, local community groups to produce a response to the collection. The results of this project are now on display in the exhibition gallery and the 'Scene Again: Croydon art through local eyes' exhibition, in the Croydon NOW section of the Museum of Croydon celebrates the project.

A programme of tours, talks and family & young people's workshops supports the exhibition and you can pick up an exhibition and events leaflet from Croydon Clocktower, your local library or Croydon Visitor Centre.
