One of the signs in the collection
is interesting, as it instructs patrons
not to smoke after the half hour
has been called.
The ban on smoking in public places and
came into effect in 2007,
so when the Fairfield opened in 1962
smoking was permitted.
Other signs in the collection read
‘No smoking in pit’,
‘This area must be left clean and tidy
After use’, and
‘All workshop stock is audited,
do not remove without permission.’
