Henry Mugowa
Henry talks about coming to the UK
and his work with Croydon Refugee Forum:
"When you are in Africa,
the first time when you are in Africa
then you have got a very set view
of what England,
what London is
and then when you suddenly
come in London
It's quite hard to reconcile
what is in the head with the reality.
"My first place to visit
was the British Library"
"The aims of the refugee forum
were to make their voices
heard in Croydon,
with respect to their lives
and settlement,
especially intergration which also,
refugee and migrant groups
believed their voices
were not being heard
and things were being done for them
without actually the people
who are being asked
to be part and parcel
of the planning process
and therefore that was
the need for the Refugee Forum."
"They thought that as a group
if they came together
then they could influence policy.
