This is no ordinary cookbook. It is based on a cartoon character called Patsy. She became famous in the Daily Mirror newspaper.
The bold drawings, friendly characters, and sense of humour, hide a serious message.
Look carefully at the ingredients. Do you notice anything unusual?

Enid describes the Patsy's Reflections cartoon strip:
"They'd been running this strip in the Daily Mirror, the story of a newly wed couple. And this girl Patsy hadn't got a clue how to cook or how to do anything."
Cooking in Wartime
Cooking with limited ingredients was an important skill after the Second World War. Nearly all food was rationed. The government promoted recipes that made the most of what people could get. Dried eggs replaced fresh. Whale meat was used in place of beef.
The ingredients were often dry, but the way that people learnt to use them wasn't! Newspapers and shops came up with creative ways to get the message across.
