Major exhibition comes to Croydon:
Venue: Whitgift Conference Centre, Haling Park, Croydon
Dates: Now extended to 1 September 2009
Opening times: Daily 10am - 5pm (last admission 4pm)
THE major Exhibition in celebration of the 500 year anniversary of Henry VIIIs accession to the throne
The Mary Rose, which sank in July 1545 at the Battle of the Solent, was a favourite of Henry VIII, and his flagship. She was raised in 1982; and the resulting collection of artefacts is an amazing time-capsule, providing a fascinating insight into the daily life of officers and sailors, as well as the military equipment of the Ship.
The exhibition will show two hundred of the finest items from the Ship, many of which have never been on public exhibition. It will be the very first time that a major part of this world-class collection will leave Portsmouth.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a full events programme for school and visitors.
For full details of the exhibition, events programme at Whitgift School and information for visitors, please visit www.maryrosehiddentreasures.org (this link to an external website opens in a new window).
Croydon Council's Arts & Heritage and Library Services are also organising a season of events at Croydon Clocktower and local libraries to support the exhibition. These include a Tudor Festival Day on Saturday 30 May, Tudor talks and walking tours and events and workshops for families. Please visit our 'A Celebration of Tudor Croydon' page for the latest details.
