Journeys of Change

10 February - 21 April 2007

Journeys of Change explored the journeys of four groups of young people as they looked at their communities involvement in the Second World War. To find our more, please email the Exhibitions Team on museum@croydon.gov.uk

Here's what some visitors to the exhibition thought of Britain's involvement in war:

  • 'war solves nothing'

  • 'ignorance and neglect worsen the initial problems. Involvement is the only means to cease detrimental activity

  • War is wrong. Unprovoked war is EVIL!

  • War is always wrong due to killings. But take a look at WWII - would it have been better to get invaded by the Nazis? Yes, war maybe wrong but it's certainly justifiable

Sunshine in Suburbia

21 October 2006 - 24 February 2007

This exhibition, originated by the Museum of Croydon, gave a unique glimpse into the lives of Croydon's first suburban dwellers during the 1920s and 30s; a time of new conventions as well as new freedoms.

Why did so many people move to the suburbs, and why did they choose Croydon? What and who made up the community of Croydon in the 20s and 30s, and does that sense of community still exist today? The exhibition brought together objects and stories to show how glamorous life was for Croydon's new surburbanites. To find out more, please contact the Exhibitions Team on museum@croydon.gov.uk
