The Museum of Croydon is part of Croydon Museum & Heritage Service. Here at the Museum of Croydon we are responsible for a number of services.
A stunning collection of Chinese ceramics dating from 2500 BC to the 19th century which is on display at Croydon Clocktower.
This collection contains over 2000 paintings, prints and drawings. Depictions of local scenes and landmarks are stored alongside prints by Henry Moore and Bridget Riley and paintings by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. Some of the collection is online and viewings can be arranged by appointment.
We run a lively programme of exhibitions in the Clocktower's Temporary Exhibition Gallery.
We also run a fun and interactive programme of events and activities relating to our services.
As part of our learning service we offer Object Handling Sessions for schools and community groups. Our Handling Collection contains over 300 objects that are meant to be touched. The objects are used with school and community groups to help people find out about the past firsthand.
We can visit you or we offer you the opportunity to book sessions at the Clocktower.
Our team are also engaged in many community outreach projects seeking to forge partnerships and make links between our work and peoples' everyday lives.
Our collection contains around 500 full interviews with people who have lived, loved and worked in Croydon. Their voices tell of major events and personal experiences. You can hear extracts of interviews online or arrange an appointment to listen to full interviews.
