Help your students get the most out of their visit by booking a Handling Session at the Museum of Croydon.
These sessions are delivered in the brand new Clocktower Activities Room and can be followed by a visit to the New Museum of Croydon's galleries.
We offer four 45 minute sessions to support teaching and learning in history at Key Stage 1, 2 & 3:
Victorians
Britain in the 1920s & 1930s
Britain during World War Two
Britain since 1948.
These sessions support Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) Schemes of Work. They help students develop
a greater understanding of what it was like to live in the past
object handling and historical enquiry skills.
During the Handling Session each student will get to handle an original object from the period they are studying.
Handling sessions begin with an introduction to the skills required to look at and investigate objects from the past. Students then practice these skills and feedback their findings to the whole group.
We also offer extended document and object sessions which take a more in-depth look at the main themes for each period.
Riesco Gallery Taught Sessions
We also offer taught sessions relating to the Riesco Gallery of Chinese ceramics. These support teaching and learning for key stages 1-3 in a range of subjects:
art
design and technology
drama
literacy
history
citizenship
These sessions cost just £2 / student with all accompanying adults FREE.
