Visit Us

From here you will be able to see the different areas of the galleries and select the objects you want to find out about.

Museum of Croydon

Each object in the galleries has four pages of information:
The Show page lets you see the object and read about what it is.
On the Tell page you will be able to read and listen to the story related to this object.
The Explain page explains the importance of the object.
The Explore page is designed to help you find out more about the object and the period of history it is related to.

We also have other collections of objects like the Handling Collection for Schools and Community Groups, the Art Collection and Riesco Collection of Chinese Ceramics.
We will be adding to these pages all the time so make sure you Visit Us regularly to see whats new.

Themes

Every object in the museum is related to a theme.
There are 5 headline themes and 25 sub-themes used in the galleries.
Use this page to look at objects and stories over time and find out how they are related to each other.

Your Gallery

You can use this section of the website to build up your own favourite collection of objects. By registering your details you can build your own exhibition online.
When you see an object or story you like, select Save this page to add it to your gallery.
The first time you do this it will challenge you to register or log-in.
Each time you choose to Save this page, a shortcut to that object will be placed in Your Gallery.
Your Gallery will the last 15 selections you have chosen. Adding more than 15 will automatically remove the oldest object from Your Gallery.

Your Story

The Museum of Croydon is built on the stories of local people.
On these pages you can tell us your own memories and stories of Croydon, add images of objects, people or places and send them to us. With your permission we may add them to the website for everyone to share.

Feedback

Without the memories, ideas and support of local people our museum wouldn't exist. If you want to give us your views on the new museum, ask us a question or tell us what to improve, then use this page.

Search

Use this facility to enter words which you are looking for. For example, if you want to see every object with the word Allders somewhere in the text, then type Allders in the Search field box and click Search.
