Victorian education
The level of education children received
depended on how rich their families were
and whether they were male or female.
As a girl from a less well-off family,
Mary Ann probably only received
a very basic education.
She may have attended Sunday School.
Like all other girls then,
she would have learnt to sew.
She also would have helped her mother
with household chores
and cared for her brothers and sisters.
Mary Ann died in May 1833, aged 15.
She was buried in Croydon Parish Church.
