Title

Jakson's Oils
1880s - 1930s
Description

A pouring jug, Peppermint sample phial and Lavender Water bottle used at John Jakson's distillery in Mitcham Road. John Jakson's was founded by Frenchman Monsieur Lelasseur in the 1880s. He wanted his business here to have a very English name. Unfortunately he spelt it wrongly. The firm grew their own lavender and peppermint in Beddington for their essential oils. The oils were extracted at the distillery in Mitcham Road and exported all over the world until the outbreak of the Second World War.
