A Doctor’s Tonsil Guillotine
This tonsillectomy tool came from a GP's surgery in London Road, Thornton Heath. In the 1920s it was quite common to have your tonsils taken out by your GP. By the mid 1930s this operation was usually done in hospital. Audrey Neeves had her tonsils removed by her GP, Dr Pajgar, in Thornton Heath in 1933 when she was 7. This equipment came from a GP's surgery in London Road, Thornton Heath.
