Title

Pocket pistol
Description

Percussion pocket pistol. Made around 1842 and bought in London, this pistol was found on Duppas Hill, Croydon in 1939, while sandbags were being filled for civil defence precautions. It is a civilian gun used for self-protection at close quarters, firing solid lead bullets. It would probably have been carried in the pocket of a travelling cloak.
