Audrey Neeves
Audrey describes Dr Pajnigar:
“Anyway, in the end
I had my tonsils out.
It was down at
the local doctor’s surgery.
He was an Indian doctor,
Dr Pajnigar.
I can remember it very well
being taken down there,
laid out on the slab,
and this big thing
coming down from the ceiling,
and the strong smell of ether.
And when my mother came in
Dr Pajnigar went out and said
‘You can come in now, mother’.
There was blood everywhere,
she thought I was dying.
He must have been about the
only Indian I think,
in those days,
but nobody ever thought him different,
it must have been
because he was a doctor.
He used to drive around
in a big Rolls Royce
with six Alsatians in it.
But he was a marvellous doctor.”
