Title

Aubrey's steel pan
1994
Description

Steelpan made by Aubrey Bryan of West Croydon in 1994. Aubrey began playing steelpans as a teenager in British Guiana and continued when he came to Croydon in 1964. By working in an engineering factory he developed the further specialist heat treatment and metalworking skills needed to make pans. Each one takes 40 to 50 hours to make. In the early 1970s Aubrey started making pans for schools, as well as for musicians. He also taught pupils how to play pans at Lanfranc, Ingram Boys' and Haling Manor High Schools in Croydon and at several other schools in inner London. This steel pan has a stand, two sticks and a carrying case.
