Title

Thomas's Tools
1928
Description

This ""frenchie"" is one of the bricklayer's tools used by Thomas Simmons of Lancing Road, West Croydon. Thomas began brick laying in 1929. Work in the building trade was not in abundance, but there was still more going on in building than in any other trade. There were houses being built all round the outskirts of Croydon, both private and council estates. As the 1930s wore on, he had to travel further and further out to reach work.
