Title
Duffle Coat & CND Badge
Description
A duffle coat and CND badge worn on Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament marches by Frances Stewart of Thornton Heath in the early 1960s. CND had been formed in 1958 when there was a widespread fear that nuclear warfare could end life on earth. Frances was the fundraiser for Croydon CND for four years, organising jumble sales and folk concerts. She had bought the coat from Milletts on Crown Hill, Croydon in 1951. As a student at Croydon Art School she felt very fashionable wearing a duffle coat, particularly a white one.
