A pewter tea set, chosen by Freda Michell of Purley in 1938 as a leaving present when she left her job at the Air Ministry to get married. The Head of her Department at the Air Ministry was present at her leaving party. The Civil Service, like most employers, dismissed women workers as soon as they married. Freda did not mind having to give up her job.
