Freda Michell remembers Wilson's Café:
"Wilson's was the great place
It was a lovely old tall Tudor house,
with Tudor furniture
and old oak beams
and lots of little rooms
leading out of other rooms.
There was a beautiful smell of coffee
which emanated outside the café
every time you passed".
"A few of us Ursuline convent girls
were friendly with the Whitgift boys
and we used to meet up
and crowd into the oak settles
in the old barn,
which was at the top of the café
the top floor
and we'd have long conversations
about every subject under the sun,
thinking we were very knowledgeable,
we were only in our teens, after all"
