Cake mascara used by office worker Nan McDiarmid of Thornton Heath in the early 1950's. She bought it at Woolworth's and wore it only on special occasions. Nan often applied it by moistening the brush with spit. The South Seas glamour advertisement was designed by Croydon artist Norman Partridge in 1948.
