Jim Walker
was the Labour party candidate
for Streatham
in the 1964 and 1966 general elections.

Wearing a rosette made by his wife,
Jim caught people's attention
and persuaded them to vote for him.

Jim's campaign was unsuccessful.
He reduced the Conservative majority,
but never became MP for Streatham.

Jim was a Councillor.
He explains how important politics is:

"Politics is not just about
fighting elections
or getting over elections.
People say,
oh,
we've got no time for politics,
its like saying,
we've got no time for religion,
its all about that!"

Jim Walker put his heart,
and a lot of time,
into local politics.

He was a local Labour councillor
for Thornton Heath
from 1958.
At the same time
he served as a local magistrate,
worked full time for Croydon Co-op
and stood for parliament twice.

His pamphlets, posters and words
declare how important
he feels politics can be.
